Chocolate Covered Strawberries
You could pay an arm and a leg for pre-made chocolate covered strawberries, or you could make them yourself and save money. Surprise your special someone on Valentine's Day, or just serve as a fabulous dessert at your next gathering.
1. Insert one toothpick into the top of each strawberry.
2. Melt the chocolate chips and shortening. You can do this by using a double boiler or by microwaving at 70% power for 3 minutes.
3. Stir chocolate/shortening mixture until smooth.
4. Dip Strawberries into the chocolate mixture, holding at toothpicks. Chocolate mixture should not cover entire strawberry; Leave about 1/4 of the strawberry showing.
5. Insert toothpick end of strawberry into styrofoam for chocolate to cool and dry onto strawberries.
6. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Serve chilled.
